Chopsticks have long been a tradition in Asia, dating back thousands of years. Chopsticks are traditionally held in the right hand between the thumb and fingers. It is generally considered poor etiquette to gesture with chopsticks, move around dishes, or pierce food. Chopsticks should also not be left sticking straight up in a bowl of rice or other food as this resembles incense sticks used as offerings to deceased family members.
